Long Time No Type

Alas, as it happens, i have not graduated from school so i remain in boarding school, and lovely as it is, they don't allow blogspot to be accessed by the internet server. This is less then ideal seeing as how this blog is oddly quite fun to write but ay, c'est la vie,
so here it the latest

-alexander mcqueen has passed in what might be the most upsetting event all year
-there is still hope in this at times gloomy world as dear dear new york is hosting fashion week at the moment
-carnival in brazil
-valentines has passed and im in dubai..
-a few weeks until the best things in the world happen

A) Mums movies premiering in the Angellica so back to New York for me
B) Spring is almost upon us
C) The 5th... possibly the greatest thing in the world is going to happen.. yes, that's right, ALICE IN WONDERLAND is coming out.
fucking hell i'm excited
D) My birthday which therefore means.. party. and in the spirit of C) i'm hosting a tea party.. as well as a booze and green scene afterwards but still, life is goood, dubai is not and i've eaten a rather large bowl of pasta for dinner so i am not ha ha?

T
oday's post is dedicated to an incredible woman. Of course, there was Audrey and Sophie Loren and Grace Kelly and Marlene Dietrich but i think you can't talk about true beauty without mentioning this French star.
She used to be called 'le chat' because of her cat like eyes. Her lips have been the centre of attention well over 40 years all over france, envied by every woman and
fantasied over by every man. Though there is much controversy in the last decade about her political points when it comes to immigration and homosexuality, she i my eyes is still such a goddess. She also works as an animal rights activist for many years now. She was fantasied about by young McCartney and Lennon and when Lennon finally met her, he had to take LSD prior to their meeting because he was so nervous. Dylan's first song was written about her and in 1970 the sculptor Alain Gourdon used Bardot as the model for a bust of Mariann; the french national emblem.
She turned
75 this September ( 28 th ) but is still stunning, this is my favourite picture of her and i do believe any woman with a guitar is simply astonishing but she does it better then anyone i've ever seen...

THE EDUKATORS

Jule is a waitress who can’t make ends meet. She moves in with her boyfriend Peter and his friend Jan, two young men united by their passion to change the world. But Jule has a secret: a past auto accident has burdened her with a lifetime of debt to successful businessman, Hardenberg. Peter and Jan also have a secret: they are the notorious “Edukators,” mysterious perpetrators who break into expensive homes as an act of political rebellion. While Peter is away on holiday, the feelings between Jan and Jule intensify. They impulsively break into Hardenberg’s home. But their growing passion has made them careless and when they’re forced to return to the villa the following night to retrieve a forgotten cell phone, Hardenberg surprises them. They have no choice but to call Peter for help, even if it means him discovering their betrayal. The trio decide to kidnap Hardenberg and hide in the mountains. It is here where ideals will be tested with passion and rage as generations collide and loyalties will shatter.

Amazing.
Sometimes I can't help to wonder what all these charities are actually doing, sometimes it just feels like we are working so hard to help and give money and then... well...nothing. For instance, (RED), the GAP's charity. It's cool, or at least as cool as GAP can be and they hire amazing actors and singers, celebrities in general and makes them pose in their attire for bundles of money ...but shouldn't that money be put forth towards the charity? anyway, i know it does good but this seems like a kick ass charity

LIFE AS A RUNWAY: Dressed For The Rec Room

TABLE TENNIS

New York Times Fashion & Style section just broke out the news: Table Tennis is the new surfing..
Goodbye sticky wet suites and salt ridden hair, here is a sport we can play dressed in flannel or fendi, lacoste or laboutins....well maybe not laboutins but still, its a good sport. Surprisingly, research shows you look more calories playing one hour of table tennis then you do during two hours of doing laps...
So no scratchy uniforms.. not too much sweat... and calorie burning, it seems the REC ROOM has the right idea.

'I can't explain myself, I'm afraid, sir' said Alice, 'because I'm not myself, you see.'
'I don't see,' said the Caterpillar.
'I'm afraid I can't put it more clearly,' Alice replied very politely, 'for I can't understand it myself to begin with; and being so many different sizes in a day is very confusing.'

a kiss with a fist is better than none...

A Kiss On The Cheek Is Good For Some...A Kiss With A Fist Is Better Than None

a kiss
it has been, for god knows how many decades, an expression of affection and passion. a kiss on the lips, an act of romance, a kiss on the cheek, an act of kindness, a kiss with a fist...a poetic slap in the face. But poetic none the less. Whether it was the rolling stones cover or many a cover girl kisses, lips have always been and will always be beautiful. and so of course, on new years, at the first thing you are meant to be given is a kiss. why how lovely, who wouldnt want to start of the year and end it with a kiss? i do believe everyday one should wake up with a kiss and sleep to one, but to those (like i) who are not so fortunate to have someone (yet) to pluck a juicy one each morning and night, i will leave you with a truly iconic kiss...

Wireless 09

About this time a year ago, my sister (age 18) came home exhausted, ecstatic and a bit tipsy (understatement of the yearrr) to tell me all about the wonders of Wireless Festivals. i endured many hours of both her, my brother and all their friends describing the inexplicable marvel of the whole two day show. Theres the line up (last year was DAFT PUNK, Jay Z, Mark Ronson, COOL KIDS, hot chip, morissey, DEADMAU5, fatboy slim, counting crows etc...), the people (the odd drunk, the many a stoners, and everywhere you looked were hot guys) and the energy which apparently was enough to get crowds jumping for hours on end, for four days straight. It goes without saying, i was fuming with envy. This time though, i got to go, well i made sure of it. There are no words, i could try to describe it but it would be too long and boring. Basically, it seriously lived up to its expectations. To check out the line up for this year and any other info go to http://www.wirelessfestival.co.uk/lineup/index.aspx and i recommend EVERYONE buying their tickets for next year as soon as they are available....wait actually after looking at the website, i don't. pink and the ting tings are headlining....hmm disappointmentttt!!! but to finish off the high praising, here is a bit of evidence to back me up.

Before KANYE came on, there was a crazy buzz of pure ecstatic energy around oh, 30000 people jumping up and down after Q-TIP and bottles began to fly. at first we laughed a bit, crazy ass brits we said, but then it became SERIOUSLY crazy. thousands of plastic beer bottles (and even a wellington) were flying over your head and we got SOAKED. painful, grimy and horrible at the time became a really hilarious memory that we will point to the bruises and laugh about the 'good ole days'. Here is a video a friend took during the bottle wars. watch it muted though since the sound is fuzzy

Blog?

So i guess it was only a matter of time before i started a blog... it just makes sense. I like pictures and i take pictures. i like art and fashion and i like to write about it. then there the weird bits and bobs of everyday life that one couldn't help but mention like the crazy ass lady i saw today protesting against animal cruelty wearing a big furry coat...in 80 degree F heat. oh the joys of living in london. Everyday you see something unbelievably ridiculous and i guess if a blog can express it all, then why not? First order of business; dont expect any of this to make sense, one day i will be on about fashion and then opera or the funny ass doped up teens at music festivals (ill explain later) and then probably a lot about traveling. there will be no order, theme or reason but i guess if you dont like it, close out, don't waste your time, i'm sure there is better shit out there for you... computers are handy that way. Anyway i'm much too tired and procrastination is a bad bad habit of mine so because there is much packing/sleeping/organizing to be done, i'll leave with the promise of at least ATTEMPTING to write more tomorrow, that much i can commit to i think.
xox
till next time

tweet tweet tweet

i'll be going on a yacht trip with the family for a week tomorrow from Athens to Mykonos (SUNSUNSUN) so i probably won't be able to write for a while, if anyone happens to actually want to read more then just read up @ http://twitter.com/gaquila my twitter page so if you miss me, i'll be updating on there (probably...)
much love
-ella

heres a picture i took of this beach we spent the day at in Mykonos. While uploading this, outside my window is a cold, rainy london and let me just say, i am SO excited for tomorrow... i reallyyy need a tan haha :)

Weed is Awfully Though Unlawfully Foxxxxy

While flipping through the online news, i saw an article titled "MEGAN FOX SAYS CANNABIS SHOULD BE LEGALIZED". cracked me up it did. We live in a very strange day in age where apparently, what the ever so Foxy Megan says, goes. There have been recent polls showing that since her very heartfelt declaration, the publics desire to legalize pot has grown. and people though the male preggo tranny was weird...

"Megan Fox has spoken once more about her fondness for marijuana - and this time she's demanding that it should be legalized."
"She told GQ, "I can't tell you how much bullshit I've been through because I would openly say that I smoke weed. People look at it like it's this crazy, hippy, f**ked up thing to do. And it's not. I hope they legalize it."

Isn't it just heart churning to know that celebrities are using their social responsability for the greater good? No but seriously, thank you Megan, you are going to make my high school years so much more delightful.
Well if anyone can legalize it, She Sure Cannabis. Round up the troops, Susan Boyle, Megan's swimsuit ads and maybe even a picture of Obammie hitting a bong and i'm sure the supreme court will break.

Spring Awakening

But a few weeks ago, i saw something that woke me up. sparked my spirits and confusion over new schools, dealing with bad schools and the bitch of being a teenager in general. and on the day of my sisters graduation, i went to see the sickest show. Spring Awakening has had a lot of fuss. Banned and skewed when it was first written and then mocked and criticized endlessly until it reached Broadway and became an instant success. Let me tell you, i saw the videos of the NYC show. looked okay but i heard really mixed reviews. But the London show was beyond. Depressingly enough, it closed the day i saw it because it wasn't getting enough hype. fuck all do i know why but it deserved all the hype in the world. it was unbebloodylievabe and the main character, Melchior was depicted in a stunning way by an actor who let me be the millionth to say, is stunning.

Heard it here first folks. Spring Awakening... brilliant. Aneurin Barnard, exceeds every girls Prince Charming idea and beyond. Sadly he has a girlfriend..
But i shit you not, this is and he is something worth looking out for.

Hot Hot Hot

Yesterday, it was brought to my attention that in 31, make that 30 days, i will be in new york. and all those who had been to NYC will know that its not the kind of place you want to be caught in rags. I'm serious, the hipsters of SoHo sweat brilliance. so i bought a ridiculous, and i mean ridiculous amount of clothing online and around london and after trying all of it on, realized that i had to drop a stone or two before i would look my best. How should i do this, in but 30 days? HOT YOGA. it is a break off of ashtanga and bikram yoga, developed by bikram choudhury and consists of 26 postures (asanas) carried out in a (40*c) 105F studio. Talk about hot, talk about yoga, hot yoga should be the talk of the town. It was simply amazing. you go to parsons green, which is enough of a trek as it is, then turn into this (quite sketchy) alley way and keep walking until you see HOT BIKRAM YOGA sign, like a beacon of light.
When you arrive, you will be welcomed but the overwhelming smell of sweat, incense and fear of what the hell will lie ahead. Once i got through the smell, i signed up for a class. They cost 10pounds each but as im a new member, i get 10 days worth of classes for free (hello size 6). The teacher was friendly, clear and really kind so aside from the few minutes you have to rest in the middle, it was some of the best exercise i've ever done. The heat is killer in the beginning but the shower you take after will make it all worth while. Today i'm not sore in the least (which is probably because the heat is all curing) and my skin has never been this soft.
XOXO
-there is no time like the now, sweat it out girlies

No Regrets

after the best of little walks i return to you. London is having the a magical of day and the shopping choices around the small markets is endless. For those of you too far from london to share in this overwhelming shopping spree, consider yourself lucky, at least you will not have maxed out your credit card in a day (which lordie knows i have, thank you very fucking much british currency). Am i the only one who is not feeling the recession has been doing enough good for us? I FOR ONE AM truly dissapointed.

Here are the latest finds for all those who can't reach london for some shopping...
